Elements of a Children's Yoga & Mindfulness Class

Two children in a Radiant Minds Children's Yoga and Mindfulness Class, sitting in meditation and experiencing calm.

For thousands of years, wisdom traditions have taught us that paying attention to the present moment has powerful positive effects on our health. For children, the time-tested practices of yoga are a wonderful gateway into this world of mindful awareness.

When we focus inward and take time to cultivate our inner vision—what Dr Daniel Siegel calls “mindsight”— we develop specific circuits in our brains that support our abilities to balance our emotions, focus our attention, pause before acting on impulses, and increase our compassion for others and ourselves.

Yoga for Woodentots:
Details & FAQs

QUESTION: Must my child attend Woodentots Montessori Nursery in order to attend Woodentots yoga classes? Yes. Woodentots Yoga sessions are especially designed for pupils of Woodentots Montessori Nursery, current and past.

QUESTION: What is the age group recommendation for Yoga for Woodentots sessions? 3-5 years old is the recommended age for Woodentots Yoga. For children younger or older, please reach out to me personally to discuss options for your child.

QUESTION: Is it required for a parent or carer to be present during the session? No, it is not required, but parents are welcome to attend from the start of class. I only ask that if you arrive mid-class or towards the end of class, that you wait downstairs until I bring your child downstairs. This is to ensure the class (and your child's attention) is not disrupted and the class energy and focus are maintained.

QUESTION: How long is each session and how is it spent? Each session is 60 minutes. The first 15 minutes is play-based in order to release as much energy as possible before we begin with our yoga and mindfulness practice. The next 30 minutes is spent participating in yoga asanas (poses). The remaining 15 minutes is spent on dedicated mindfulness practices and savasana (rest), as well as a quick Q&A and review of how your child did (they receive a logbook which we go over together so they can be aware of their progress).

QUESTION: Are snacks required for the session? It would be nice for your child to have a snack handy if they are hungry after a long day at nursery. Please do not send nuts and the like, honoring the Woodentots dietary restrictions.

QUESTION: How many families are accommodated in each session? To ensure personalized attention, the class size is intimate, limited to only 5 families. This allows for a supportive and interactive learning environment for your child.
